Worship Online

Welcome to Worship at Charlestown & Garden Suburb.  This is the video prepared for Pentecost 21, Sunday 25 October, as today we return to our regular worship services.   The scripture readings are 1 Thessalonians 2: 1-8 and Matthew 22: 34-46.  You are welcome to join one of the worship reflection groups on Zoom, on Sunday at 11am, or Monday at 3.30pm.  Please email for the Zoom link.

Worship Online

Welcome to Worship at Charlestown & Garden Suburb.  Again this week, Sunday 18 October, our message is provided by Project Reconnect.  This message is brought to us by Rev Niall McKay, and is based on Matthew 22:15-22, which you are invited to read before watching the message.  You will find the reading here.  Here are some questions for you to discuss with someone, or bring before God in a contemplative conversation:

  1. How often have you talked about personal finances at church or with other Christians? Has this been a comfortable conversation?

  2. The Church is often a place where rules have been highly valued. Can you think of times when breaking the rules has been the loving thing to do?

  3. The key insight in today’s reading is: “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and give God the things that are God’s.” What are some of the things we have been giving the emperor that we should have been giving to God?

  4. Can a different fresh understanding of rules and justice open up conversations with people or groups in your community that the church has traditionally found too difficult to connect with?

Worship Online

Welcome to Worship at Charlestown & Garden Suburb.  Our team have had a well deserved break, so this week, Sunday 11 October, our worship message is provided by Rev Garry Derkenne, in a video for Project Reconnect.  Garry's message is based on Matthew 22: 1-14, which you are invited to read before watching the message.  You will find the reading here.  Here are some questions for you to discuss with someone, or bring before God in a contemplative conversation:

  1. As you experienced the message what was familiar and what was strange?

  2. Describe times when you felt comfortable in your faith; and other times when you felt challenged because your life is relatively comfortable compared to others?

  3. How does your congregation both comfort you and challenge you in your journey?

  4. Do you find your wider community insular, or open to the challenges knowledge of the suffering in the world, brings?

Worship Online

Welcome to Worship at Charlestown & Garden Suburb.  This is the video prepared for Pentecost 18, Sunday 4 October.  Today is the feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of animals.  You will see a display of animals in the service in acknowledgement of St Francis's love of all creation.  The scripture readings are Exodus 20:1-4,7-9,12-20 which is a paraphrased version, and Matthew 21: 33-46, the parable of the tenants.

Worship Recording Covid Safety Plan

Our congregation continues to worship online, and connect through the worship reflection groups on Zoom.  Our worship team records our service on a Thursday morning, in line with this Safety Plan.

Everyone is welcome to join one of these reflection groups on either Sunday or Monday.

Each group will run for one hour, and will begin in one large group, before entering breakout rooms with just a few people for sharing.

If you are local, and need help connecting to Zoom, please email, and we may be able to help.

If you would like to receive the link to join in, please email Rev Tom.

Worship Online

Welcome to Worship at Charlestown & Garden Suburb.  This is the video prepared for Pentecost 17, Sunday 27 September.  During September, we are departing from our usual lectionary readings and instead looking at the readings for the Season of Creation. Today is River Sunday in the Season of Creation.  These scripture readings are Genesis 8: 20-22, 9: 12-17, Psalm 104 and Revelation 22: 1-5.

The Whitebridge Wellness Centre is an activity of Charlestown & Garden Suburb Uniting Church.  Check the website for details of regular classes and special events.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

What is Spiritual Direction?

The practice of being with people as they attempt to deepen their relationship with the divine, or to learn and grow in their own personal spirituality.

How could Spiritual Direction help me?

Perhaps you have a feeling of being adrift in life and desire to experience greater meaning and direction.  Spiritual Directions sessions may be helpful in providing space for you to tell your story in order to explore meaning in every area of your life.

How do I find out more?
